Son of Sardaar 2 release date changed: When to watch Ajay Devgn's comedy sequel in theatres? Check new date, plot, cast

The highly awaited comedy-drama Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur, has officially been postponed. Initially scheduled for release on July 25, 2025, the sequel will now arrive in cinemas on August 1. The announcement came less than a week before the intended premiere, with no official reason offered by the producers for the delay.

The updated release date was shared across social media with a new promotional poster, reading, “The laughter riot just got a new date. Son of Sardaar 2 will now release in cinemas on 1st August 2025 worldwide.” The film is directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and produced under Devgn Films and Jio Studios by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande, alongside N R Pachisia and Pravin Talreja.

Son of Sardaar 2 Plot and Cast

Son of Sardaar 2 is a follow-up to the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar, which starred Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, and the late Mukul Dev. The original film was a commercial success.


The sequel revisits Devgn’s character Jaswinder "Jassi" Singh, this time set in Scotland. The story also introduces a parallel narrative featuring a group of children, led by a 12-year-old boy named Aarav, as they embark on a whimsical search for a legendary golden mango during a festival—blending humour with emotional depth.

The film's cast includes Mrunal Thakur, Deepak Dobriyal, Kubbra Sait, Vindu Dara Singh, Sanjay Mishra, Chunky Panday, Ravi Kishan, Neeru Bajwa, Roshni Walia, and others. The screenplay has been penned by Mohit Jain and Jagdeep Sidhu.

Tragically, Son of Sardaar 2 also marks the final appearance of actor Mukul Dev, who passed away on May 23, 2025. His legacy from the first film continues into this final project.

A Clash on the Horizon

With its new date, Son of Sardaar 2 is now set to clash with Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Meanwhile, another contender originally planned for July 25, Param Sundari—featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor—has quietly moved to an August release as well, confirming the reshuffling of schedules in anticipation of box office dynamics.

Presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, Son of Sardaar 2 is now officially set for release on August 1, 2025, in theatres worldwide.
