A Bengaluru-based tech professional recently shared his experience on X after spending six years living in Germany before deciding to return to India.
He described his time abroad as structured and comfortable. Life in Germany, he noted, came with clean roads, a strong work-life balance, peaceful surroundings, and highly predictable systems that made everyday living smooth and stress-free. On paper, it was everything many people aim for when they move abroad.
Why did he come back to India?
Yet, despite all of that, he made the decision to come back. He acknowledged that India comes with its own set of challenges. Traffic, pollution, noise, overcrowding, and countless daily inconveniences are part of the reality many people experience. He did not deny any of it, nor did he romanticise it. In fact, he admitted that at times he still feels the pull of going back to the structured life he left behind. But what he found harder to ignore was something less measurable.
According to him, India carries a different kind of emotional intensity that is difficult to explain in simple comparisons. It is found in everyday energy, spontaneous interactions, close family bonds, festivals that spill into the streets, and a sense that life is constantly moving around you rather than quietly passing by.
Internet reacts
The post sparked a thoughtful mix of reactions online, with many reflecting on what truly defines “a good life.” One user pointed out, “True, you are earning for your family what is the point when you can’t spend time with them,” highlighting the emotional cost of distance. Another added a more balanced view, saying that peaceful and lively environments can both feel like home, just in different phases of life. Others kept it more philosophical, with one comment reading, “Some countries optimize life. India amplifies it,” while another summed it up simply: “Germany gave you peace. India gave you pulse. Some things can’t be measured, only felt.”The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
