‘So many possibilities’: Ted Lasso star teases Season 5’s future, reveals one storyline she wants to explore

With Mae Green’s death and an emotional ending to Ted Lasso’s Season 4 Episode 9, fans of this popular show may not have to say goodbye to AFC Richmond just yet. While Apple TV has not renewed the Emmy-winning comedy for Season 5, one of the show's stars has hinted that there is still plenty of room for the story to continue.

Tanya Reynolds, who plays Coach Alice Chilton, discussed the possibility of another season alongside Abbie Hern, who plays the star striker Gemma Jay. Reynolds said there are “so many possibilities” for where the characters could go next.

Ted Lasso star teases Season 5 possibility

Asked whether she had a sense of where her character's story could lead after Season 4, Reynolds told Decider, “We have no idea. There's obviously so much potential, so many possibilities.”

The actress even suggested one storyline she would like to explore if Ted Lasso returns. Reynolds said she would be interested in a flashback to Alice and Gemma's Arsenal days, where they were teammates with a bitter history.

“We’d be so interested in a flashback to our Arsenal days,” Reynolds told the outlet. “We can get to the bottom of the beef.”

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 5 has not been confirmed

With all being said about the cast’s enthusiasm, Season 5 of Ted Lasso is not confirmed. Apple TV had not officially renewed or canceled the series as of the Season 4 finale. The Season 4 finale also leaves the door open for more stories involving the Lady Greyhounds and their evolving relationships.

When could ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 5 arrive?

There is currently no release date for a fifth season because Apple has yet to officially renew the show. Decider notes that if the series is renewed, writing and production could potentially lead to new episodes in fall 2027 or early to mid-2028, although that timeline is only an estimate.

Until now, Reynolds' comments offer more of a glimpse into the cast's hopes than an official confirmation. But for Ted Lasso fans, the message is clear: the actors can still see stories worth telling.
