Aamir Khan created considerable excitement when he initially revealed that Sitaare Zameen Par would skip conventional OTT platforms and instead arrive directly on YouTube. The unconventional move drew widespread attention, as it challenged the typical digital distribution model followed by most major films. However, in an unexpected development, that approach has now been revised, with the movie preparing for a fresh digital debut in April through a more traditional route.

Official Streaming Announcement

The film had previously been associated with Sony LIV, and the platform has now formally confirmed its premiere date. According to the latest announcement, the movie will begin streaming on April 3, strategically timed to align with the festive period of Good Friday and the extended holiday weekend. The streaming service also shared the update on its official social media page, highlighting the film’s emotional narrative centered on acceptance, individuality, and healing, while encouraging viewers to embrace the idea that everyone’s sense of normalcy is unique.

From YouTube Strategy to OTT Release

This development marks a clear departure from Aamir Khan’s earlier position. Last year, he had strongly emphasized that the film would avoid OTT platforms altogether, opting instead for a direct release on YouTube after its theatrical run. Following its cinema debut on June 20, the film eventually became available online on August 1 through YouTube, where audiences could access it on a rental basis for ₹100. Despite this experimental release strategy, the current decision signals a return to mainstream streaming platforms to reach a wider audience.

Directed by RS Prasanna, the film features an ensemble cast including Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh, and several emerging performers. The project is backed by Aamir Khan Productions, with production support from Aparna Purohit, B. Shrinivas Rao, and Ravi Bhagchandka.

Positioned as a thematic follow-up to the acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, the story revolves around a basketball coach who faces legal consequences after a drunk-driving incident. As part of his penalty, he is assigned to train a group of neurodivergent individuals, leading to a transformative journey filled with emotional growth and mutual understanding. The film received favorable responses from critics and audiences alike and achieved moderate commercial success, grossing over ₹265 crore globally.
