Sitaare Zameen Par OTT release confirmed: When and where to watch Aamir Khan’s sports drama nearly a year after its theatrical release? Reason behind the delay
Aamir Khan's sports comedy-drama Sitaare Zameen Par, after an experimental pay-per-view release, is finally heading for its digital debut. This marks the first Hindi theatrical film to premiere directly on the platform SonyLiv, nearly a year after...

The movie originally hit cinemas on June 20, 2025 and performed well at the box office, reportedly earning around ₹167 crore in India. Despite its successful theatrical run, the film did not follow the typical path of quickly arriving on streaming platforms, leaving many viewers wondering when it would eventually make its OTT debut.
When and where to watch the film
The makers have now confirmed that Sitaare Zameen Par will premiere on SonyLIV. In its March 14 announcement revealing the content lineup for the next three months, the platform said the film will start streaming on a Friday in April. However, the exact release date has not been disclosed yet.The streamer also stated that the movie’s arrival will be historic for the service, as it will be the first Hindi theatrical film to premiere directly on SonyLIV. In its statement, the platform described the film as an uplifting sports drama that will soon reach audiences at home nearly a year after its cinema release.
Why the OTT release took so long
The delay in the film’s streaming debut is largely due to an unconventional distribution strategy chosen by Aamir Khan. Instead of following the common eight-week theatrical-to-OTT window used by platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, the superstar opted for a different approach.Under this model, the film premiered on YouTube on August 1, 2025, where viewers could rent it for Rs 100 and watch it for 48 hours. The idea was to give audiences the option of paying for a single viewing rather than accessing the film through a subscription service.
