Sikh Sangat of Ambala demand registration of FIR against 'Manmarziyaan' cast and crew

The Sikh Sangat of Ambala on Monday gathered in a meeting at Gurdwara Manji Sahib in Ambala and decided that they will stand against the screening of the film 'Manmarziyaan' in which the actor Abhishek Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu are seen in objectionable scenes of cigarette smoking while acting as Sikh characters. In one scene Abhishek is seen removing the turban in an objectionable way, which is also opposed by the Sikhs. In Ambala, the Sikhs have come forward against this film and said the film is spreading a misleading message to the society about the Sikh identity.



In the meeting at Manji Sahib, they discussed various aspects of the 'Manmarziyaan' film and decided to demand the immediate removal of the film from the cinema houses. The Sikhs also issued a warning that if this film is not removed from the screens, they will stage protests in the cinema houses.


The Sikhs demanded the registration of an FIR (First Information Report) against the actor Abhishek Bachchan, actress Taapsee Pannu, writer, director and producer of the film. Later the Sikhs under the leadership of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Harpal Singh Pali, president Ambala City Youth Akali Dal Charan Singh Takkar, and some other leaders complained against the film to the city magistrate and to the Ambala City police station demanding the registration of FIR in this regard.

The Sikhs while talking to said, "The filmmakers have not only hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikhs, but they have also made an attempt to distort the Sikh principles. This is not the first time when a film is attacking the Sikh identity, earlier as well there have been films which have targeted the Sikhs. We will strongly oppose the screening of this film in our area, we urge the Sikhs worldwide to unite and stand against this film."
