Shuttler Sai Praneeth weds Swetha Jayanthi; Saina-Parupalli, Kidambi Srikanth celebrate at reception

The couple, who got engaged last month, tied the knot in a traditional ceremony.

Shuttler Sai Praneeth tied the knot with Swetha Jayanthi in a private, traditional ceremony, last week.

The couple, who exchanged rings last month, celebrated their nuptials at a reception with family and friends from the badminton fraternity. The couple opted to complement each other in outfits in shades of purple for their reception.

They took to Instagram to share pictures from the reception and wedding. While Praneeth said, "From the time I met her I know she is the one for me and finally we are together" about his wife, Jayanthi too indulged in some display of love on social media, writing, "Being with this man is the best feeling ever @saipraneeth92 my best half������... Let's be together and make every moment wonderful rest of our life."




Badminton's star couple Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap were among guests who came to congratulate the newlyweds. While Nehwal dazzled in a rich-wine velvet saree by designer duo Shyamal & Bhumika, huband Kashyap opted for a chikankari kurta-pyjama by Apeksha The Label. The duo posed for pictures together, and also with the couple of the hour.

Nehwal's dad Harvir also posed with his daughter at the reception.

Former World No 1 Kidambi Srikanth also joined guests that included player Ashwini Ponnappa at the reception. Srikanth opted for a blue blazer over a white shirt and trousers for the function.


Ponnappa was dressed in a black ensemble as she posed with the newlyweds.

Earlier in August, Bhamidipati Sai Praneeth became the first Indian male shuttler in 36 years to win a bronze medal in the BWF World Championships after Prakash Padukone in 1983. He was also honoured with the Arjuna award this year.

The reception, held on Thursday in Hyderabad, was a lavish affair. Among guests at the do was Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who posed with the newlyweds and their families.

Former model-actress Sangeeta Bijlani, who opted for a blue lehenga for the occasion, was also spotted in the frame alongside ex-husband Azharuddin.
