Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra gets four weeks' protection from arrest in pornographic films case by Supreme Court

On November 25, the Bombay High Court denied Kundra anticipatory bail in one of the cases against him.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra got a major relief from the apex court on Wednesday after it granted protection to the businessman for four weeks from arrest in connection with the pornographic content case.

According to a report in NDTV, the Supreme Court also issued a notice to the Maharashtra government. On November 25, the Bombay High Court denied Kundra anticipatory bail in one of the cases against him. After which, the businessman moved the apex court.

The cyber cell of the Mumbai police has filed a case against Kundra under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act, and Information Technology Act for allegedly distributing/ transmitting sexually explicit videos.


The FIR also named actors Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey as co-accused.

Fearing arrest, Kundra first sought anticipatory bail from the sessions court but it was denied. He then knocked on the HC's door, claiming that he had been framed up.

In his bail plea, the 46-year-old businessman claimed that the content in videos, although erotic in nature, did not display any sexual or physical activity, while denying his involvement in the making or broadcasting of those videos.

Shetty's husband claimed that he had been wrongly incriminated in the porn films case.

Earlier this year in July, Kundra was arrested from his residence in Mumbai for allegedly producing an distributing porn films through 'HotShots', a subscription-based mobile app.

After his arrest, the police also searched the Mumbai residence of Kundra’s wife, Shetty and recorded her statement in the case.

Kundra was released on bail in September. The Mumbai Crime Branch is still investigating the case.
