Inside Shekhar Suman’s sea-facing Mumbai penthouse
One of the most striking features of Suman’s home is its view. The balconies are filled with plants and flowers, while the rooftop terrace offers a look at the sea on one side and mangrove cover on the other. The open layout allows natural light to enter the house.During a house tour with Priyam Saraswat, Suman spoke about the stories behind several objects displayed in his home. He pointed out a chess piece collected from New York and another decorative item from San Diego. Paintings, ornate vases, vintage mirrors and other collectibles add character to the rooms.

The interiors follow a Victorian theme, with beige and ivory walls, dark wooden furniture, floral prints and elaborate chandeliers. The dining room continues the same style, while the bar provides a space for the actor to spend time with close friends.
The residence also includes a private gym, home theatre, office spaces and a study where Suman works on his projects.
How wife Alka helped design the Victorian-style home
Suman has credited his wife, Alka, for putting the interiors together. In 2008 interview with Hindustan Times, he said, "My wife Alka and I went all out to do up the place. We zeroed in on a Victorian theme. Since the English use a lot of flowers, you’ll see floral prints, paintings, huge vases and potpourri. Delicate pinks and pastels abound. We’ve got vases, chandeliers, upholstery, furnishing, unique timepieces, carved fountains and clay statues from Manhattan, Switzerland, London, Dubai and Hong Kong. My favourite is a four-foot tall vase in the main living area which is an exact replica of the one in the Czar’s palace."

The penthouse also has a prayer room, with religious idols placed around the house. Suman has spoken about his religious beliefs and the importance of spirituality in his life.
The actor has also described the residence as a place where he enjoys hosting people. The bar and dining area are designed for conversations and gatherings, while the terrace offers an open setting to spend time outdoors.
Shekhar Suman’s journey to buying his dream home
In a 2008 interview with Hindustan Times, Suman recalled that purchasing the property was not straightforward. He was interested in the top four floors of the building in Lokhandwala, but they belonged to a Hong Kong-based investor who was initially unwilling to sell. The actor nearly gave up on the deal.
Months later, he reconsidered the purchase after attending the premiere of Shah Rukh Khan’s Chalte Chalte, whose climax was filmed in the same building. When he approached the owner again, the deal appeared possible. However, another buyer had already paid an advance and had only a limited time to complete the purchase.
Suman said that the other buyer eventually changed his mind, allowing him to secure the property. The actor, who moved to Mumbai from Patna and began his career with limited means, described the house as his dream home.
