Shefali Jariwala, Sidharth Shukla deaths, breakups: Contestant Himanshi Khurana says Bigg Boss 13 was cursed

The tragic death of Shefali Jariwala, fondly remembered as the Kaanta Laga girl, has once again stirred painful memories among fans of Bigg Boss 13. The 42-year-old actress was found dead at her Andheri home on June 27, sending shockwaves across the entertainment industry. Amid this, her Bigg Boss 13 co-contestant Himanshi Khurana called the season “cursed,” pointing to the heartbreaking sequence of events that have followed since its airing—including the death of winner Sidharth Shukla in 2021 and her own breakup with fellow contestant Asim Riaz in 2023.

Shefali Jariwala became an overnight sensation in 2002 with the iconic music video Kaanta Laga. She later participated in several reality shows, including Nach Baliye with her husband Parag Tyagi and Bigg Boss 13, where her strong personality and candid nature won her fans. Her sudden death has left colleagues and fans mourning, especially those who shared space with her on the reality show.

Himanshi Khurana mourned the death of Shefali and took to Instagram Stories after the news broke. Posting a throwback photo, she wrote, “Bigg Boss, that place is cursed, I think.” The statement comes in the wake of Sidharth Shukla’s sudden heart attack at age 40, her own split with Asim Riaz, and now Shefali’s untimely demise.

Shefali Jariwala’s funeral

Shefali’s funeral was held at the Oshiwara Hindu crematorium. Her husband Parag Tyagi performed the last rites alongside her father and younger sister. Many industry colleagues—including Mika Singh, Vikas Gupta, Shehnaaz Gill, and Bhaktiyaar Irani—attended the funeral to pay their respects.


Reportedly, Shefali was rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Andheri around 11:15 p.m. but was declared dead on arrival. Her post-mortem was conducted at Cooper Hospital and her body was handed over to the family on June 28.
