She was fired. But one request to HR turned the tables and landed her a coveted senior role: ‘Before I leave, can you….’
An X user recently shared a powerful anecdote about how the HR officer’s rude attempt to fire her unceremoniously backfired completely.

The CEO was notified that a termination was in progress by the HR representative. The CEO requested to know who was being fired before she could give more information. The talk apparently stopped for a while after Meg's name was brought up.
The CEO then requested a direct conversation with Meg. Meg answered the phone and said hello to him. With a sigh, the CEO replied that he was personally visiting and told her not to leave the workplace.
About 20 minutes later, the CEO arrived at the HR department. He noticed the termination document lying on the desk and immediately questioned who had approved the decision.
The HR executive directed the responsibility toward her manager. However, the CEO appeared surprised. He explained that the situation was particularly unusual because he had personally approved Meg’s promotion just the previous day.
The CEO then turned his attention to Meg and congratulated her, explaining that she was no longer going to remain in her previous role. Instead, effective immediately, he appointed her as the company’s new head of HR.
The HR executive who had attempted to remove Meg from the organization was left with little to say. She quietly gathered her belongings and left the office.
The incident serves as a reminder that workplace power dynamics are not always as straightforward as they appear. Someone who seems vulnerable during a difficult situation may have the support of influential decision-makers behind the scenes. Acting hastily or disrespectfully can therefore have consequences, particularly when decisions are made without understanding the complete picture.
