A young woman who goes by the name Rutuja took to X to share how an ordinary evening quickly turned into a wholesome moment for her and the internet as well. All she did was attend a meeting while standing on her farm beside her mother. But it was the manager’s comment after he realised where she had joined the call from that has the internet’s undivided attention.
According to her post, she wrapped up work around 6 PM, shut her laptop, and immediately headed to the farm to help her mother cut grass for cattle. Like many people balancing corporate life with responsibilities back home, she moved from office mode to family duties without much pause in between.
About half an hour later, her manager sent her a message asking if she could join a meeting. Instead of refusing or delaying it, she connected through her phone directly from the farm. During the call, the manager noticed that she was outdoors and asked whether she was outside somewhere. Rutuja explained that she was at the farm helping her mother, but assured him that the meeting could continue without any problem.
Manager's response
Instead of insisting on continuing the discussion, her manager reportedly told her that she could have informed him earlier because the matter was not urgent. He asked her to take care, enjoy the fresh air, and suggested they could discuss everything the next day instead.Internet's reaction
The post quickly gained attention online because many users said such understanding reactions are rare in modern work culture, where employees often feel pressured to stay constantly available even after office hours.Several people pointed out how refreshing it felt to see a manager acknowledge that employees have lives outside work. Others said the moment reflected the importance of empathy in leadership, especially at a time when burnout and always-on work expectations have become increasingly common.
One user wondered if her attendance portal did not show a red mark, indicating her absence. Rutuja, however, responded that that's not the case, since her manager knows she does her work on time. One user called it “a leader worth keeping,” adding that boundaries and empathy often create better results than any 6 PM urgency ever could, while also telling her to enjoy the fresh air.
Another commented that she is “lucky” to have such a manager, noting that good leaders are rare, deeply valuable, and tend to leave a lasting imprint on people over time.
