After her dad's death, she took care of everyone and built a career. But at 23, she lost her life to 'simple fever'. What happened?

At just 23, Priyanshi Mehta had built a remarkable career, climbing from a humble Rs 5,000 internship to a Rs 24 lakh per annum role, all while supporting her family after the loss of their father. But her life was tragically cut short by a disease that first appeared as a simple fever. Her younger sister, Princy Mehta, opens up about the relentless hustle, hidden battles, and the heartbreaking reality of Lupus, a silent killer striking young women in their prime.

After their father passed in 2019, Priyanshi became the anchor for her grieving family, managing responsibilities far beyond her years. At 17, she balanced her grief with household duties and helped set up a cloud kitchen with her mother, though it never fully took off. In 2022, she moved to Mumbai for college, determined to contribute financially, working tirelessly from internships to high-profile corporate roles. Her dedication allowed the family to breathe easier, yet the pressures of success and an undiagnosed illness were quietly taking their toll.

By late 2025, Priyanshi’s health had begun deteriorating, initially dismissed as a urinary tract infection. Within months, tests revealed Lupus, an autoimmune disease that silently attacks organs. She endured weeks of transfusions, dialysis, and IV treatments, all while still looking out for her family. Even during her illness, she pursued remote work opportunities, trying to maintain normalcy. But Lupus proved relentless, and by February 2026, her organs began failing, claiming her life despite the doctors’ optimism.

Princy now steps into her sister’s role, caring for their mother and advocating for awareness about Lupus. She hopes that by sharing Priyanshi’s story, more families will recognise the early warning signs of this silent killer.
