Shah Rukh Khan made his big-bang return after five years with 'Pathaan'.
The Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, has once again proved he rules the Hindi film industry.

Protests, controversies and reports of piracy couldn't stop 'Pathaan', the movie that marks the superstar's return to the big screen after the 2018 film 'Zero', from being a success at the box-office.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported the early first-day 'Pathaan' box-office numbers on the release day.

In his tweet, he said that the national multiplex chains such as PVR Cinemas, INOX Movies and Cinepolis have clocked a collection of Rs 25.05 crore (till 8:15 pm) on Wednesday.

Adarsh also said that 'Pathaan' beats Kannada star Yash's 'KGF: Chapter 1' which collected Rs 22.15 crore on Day 1. The SRK-led film also leaves behind Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff-starrer 'War' (2019) and Aamir Khan's 'Thugs Of Hindostan' (2018), which made Rs 19.67 crore and Rs 18 crore, respectively, on Day 1.

Reporting the same numbers, trade analyst Sumit Kadel said that the movie is expected to make a nett collection of Rs 52 crore to Rs 55 crore on Day 1 in India.

South movies trade analyst Ramesh Bala also shared his early estimates for 'Pathaan'. He said that the movie will set an all-time new record with a Rs 54 crore (nett) collection on the opening day.

Bala further added that the movie will rule the 2023 box-office with a whopping Rs 100 crore-plus (gross) collection, globally. Sharing the estimated break-up of other countries, he said that New Zealand will collect NZ$110,000, Australia will mint A$600K and the US will cross the $1 million collection by Wednesday afternoon.

'Pathaan' has also emerged as the No.1 debut film in UAE and Singapore.

Meanwhile, another trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal claimed that 'Pathaan' had swiftly moved towards the Rs 56 crore mark on Day 1. He also shared that all shows in India between 9 pm on January 25 and January 26 at midnight in Tier-1 cities were sold out.

"Shah Rukh Khan officially gets the tag of biggest opening for any Bollywood film ever…," he wrote.

He is hopeful that the movie will smoothly glide to the Rs 400 crore club and will achieve the Rs 300 crore mark (nett) in one week.

Malayalam Cinema Forum also shared on their Twitter account that the movie had an amazing Day 1 start in Kerala.

"'Pathaan' had excellent late-night shows at the Kerala box-office which raised its bar from our early estimated numbers. First day Kerala gross Rs 1.91 crore with an approximate nett of Rs 1.5 crore. All-time record opening," the tweet read.

Jaiswal also said that the collection from the south belt is surprisingly strong. "So many shows in Kerala and almost 80 per cent of shows in fast filling-mode. Terrific Start," he wrote.

The movie also had a good start in states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. "25 per cent more occupancy as compared to yesterday for Day 2," he added.

The spy thriller, which opened to packed movie theatres on Wednesday (January 5), set a new record when it sold about 5,56,000 tickets in advance booking on the first day. The movie was just behind SS Rajamouli's blockbuster 'Baahubali: The Conclusion', which sold 6,50,000 tickets on the first day.

After the winning streak of South movies, 2023 may be Bollywood's turn with the bumper release of 'Pathaan', where Khan plays a spy fighting a militant outfit.

'Pathaan' is playing in 100-plus countries. It will now be shown on 8,000 screens, 2,500 of whom are abroad where Khan has a strong following.

Deepika Padukone will be seen playing the female lead in the action thriller opposite Khan. Actor John Abraham will play the role of an antagonist in the Siddharth Anand- directorial. The movie is bankrolled by Aditya Chopra under his home banner Yash Raj Films, and Alexander Dostal.
