Skullcandy Indy review: Stellar battery life, impressive sound quality make it a good buy

Indy is Skullcandy’s latest TWS (true wireless stereo) earbuds and they boast of unique stability ear gels. These ear gels are made of silicon and they work really well — we got a secure fit in both ears and they didn’t budge while running. Plus, this design also adds a good amount of noise isolation. They’re sweat, water and dust resistant — ideal for use during exercise. Both earbuds have touch controls to access functions like volume, play/pause, track change and call accept.

Sound quality is impressive — we loved the tight bass and even though the treble feels slightly sharper than the typical set of earphones, it doesn’t overpower the bass. Volume output is satisfyingly loud and thanks to the added benefit of noise isolation, we never felt the need to go over 70% volume. Trouble is with voice calls — the microphone is only in the right earbud and doesn’t work well in noisy environments. Also, the Indy suffers from the audio/video sync issue for streaming content which is a common problem with TWS earbuds.

Battery life is stellar — the earbuds on their own promise up to 4 hours playback on a single charge but we actually got a bit more than that. The provided charging case can charge the earphones up to 3 times and we were able to get almost 18 hours of total battery life in total which is impressive. However, we didn’t like the charging case — it is bulky when compared to the competition. Also, taking out the earphones from the charging case requires prying — the silicon stability ear gels are a tight fit in the case. In our opinion, the Skullcandy Indy is great for music consumption but if you watch a lot of videos, avoid these and get Galaxy Buds instead.
