The upcoming crime thriller, led by Nicole Kidman, now has a confirmed streaming date, and fans of forensic dramas have already marked their calendars. In the series, Nicole Kidman plays Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a highly skilled forensic pathologist who returns to her former role as chief medical examiner. The trailer hints that she comes back because she is unsettled by the way she left the job the first time. As she begins investigating a string of murders that appear to be the work of a serial killer, she is forced to confront a case from her past.

The story unfolds across two timelines — one set in the late 1990s during her early rise as a chief medical examiner, and another in the present day as she returns to her hometown to solve a brutal crime. The investigation raises a troubling possibility: the new murders share similarities with her first-ever case. The question that hangs over the show is simple but heavy — could the case that made her also be the one that breaks her?

The series has been developed for television by Liz Sarnoff, who has also co-written the script alongside Cornwell.
