Satya Nadella calls Jeff Bezos's new role as a well-deserved recognition, Sundar Pichai congratulates

The world's richest man, Jeff Bezos, stepped down on Tuesday from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) role at Amazon, the start-up he built from scratch into one of the world's most valuable firms.

While announcing the news, the 57-year-old billionaire that he will become the executive chairman of Amazon's board in the third quarter, and the head of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Andy Jassy, will take over the day-to-day operations at the e-commerce website as the CEO.

Various industry peers and colleagues congratulated Bezos on his new responsibilities.


Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella took to Twitter to praise Bezos and Jassy, calling it a 'well-deserved recognition'. Microsoft is a competitor of AWS in the cloud computing business.


As Bezos moves close to his charitable roles, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai wished Bezos for his philanthropic endeavours - Day 1 Fund and Bezos Earth Fund.

Bill Gurley, General Partner at Benchmark CFA is a general partner at venture capital firm Benchmark, took this opportunity to share a throwback image with Bezos in the initial years of his career. The venture capitalist said that he had no idea he was 'about to witness the most spectacular CEO-run of his lifetime'. Calling him the most-strategic business thinker he has ever met, he lauded Bezos for being able to turn strategies into processes that scale. "Undisputed GOAT," he wrote.


Argentine entrepreneur and angel investor, Martin Varsavsky, who also is the founder of Prelude Fertility, and CEO of Overture Fertility and Goggo Network, said the decision by Bezos will help him have a life.


In a letter to Amazon employees, Bezos wrote, "I've never had more energy, and this isn't about retiring... I'm super passionate about the impact I think these organizations can have".

"In the Exec Chair role, I intend to focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives," Bezos said on his transition. He further called Jassy an 'outstanding leader'.
