Sanjiv Goenka's son gets married, India Inc turns up in full strength

Sanjiv Goenka’s son Shashwat married Shivika Jhunjhnuwala in a three-day affair in Kolkata

A fortnight ago, Sanjiv and Preeti Goenka’s son Shashwat tied the knot with his fiancée Shivika Jhunjhnuwala. January 29, the wedding day, was also Goenka senior’s birthday.

Shashwat heads the retail business for RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group. His bride is the daughter of Surya Jhunjhnuwala who heads the Singapore-based Naumi hospitality.

The celebrations, which lasted for three days (January 27-29) were attended by over 7,500 guests which included business and political leaders, cricketers, Bollywood stars and artists. Corporate India was represented by the likes of the Ambanis, Uday Kotak, Sajjan Jindal, Dilip Shanghvi, Pawan Munjal and Rajashree Birla.



The highlight of the wedding was the performance by theatre group, Cirque du Soleil, at the sangeet on January 28. The group started off with the Gayatri mantra. The performance culminated in guests dancing to Bollywood tunes.

Over the three days, guests sampled a wide variety of cuisines. At the reception, the spread included Parsi, Marwari, Sindhi, Sri Lankan and Peruvian food.

There was ample indulgence for the sweet tooth at the sangeet with a chocolate chandelier and an array of over 50 desserts. And finally, the world converged on the culinary platter with an exotic mix of Magadhi food, European grills, Italian burrata bar, Swiss delights, East Asian food, traditional Indian sweets and western confectionery at the wedding.
