Samsung Galaxy Fold to arrive in Europe in early May; no confirmation on India launch

The foldable smartphone starts at $1,980, and will hit shelves in the US on April 26.

SEOUL: Samsung Electronics Co said on Tuesday that it plans to release its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, in Europe in early May.

While the smartphone-maker didn't confirm the official launch date of the premium foldable device in India, it is expected that Galaxy Fold may arrive in May.

Samsung showcased its first foldable device during a global event late last month in the hopes that the new device will become a game-changer in the lethargic smartphone market.

Samsung said earlier the Galaxy Fold starts at $1,980 and will hit shelves in the US market on April 26.

According to Samsung, the new smartphone will be sold from May 3 in Britain, France and 13 other European countries, with the price set at 2,000 euros, Yonhap news agency reported.

The new type of handset has a tablet-sized screen that can be folded up to fit into a pocket. The Fold was created using the company's cutting edge display technology.

No other Sony phone has been launched in India since then even though the XZ3 was showcased globally in August. The tech giant kept its promise and kicked-off the 'Unpacked' event with the launch of Samsung Galaxy Fold.
