Samir Srivastav says that rich wine hue is an underplayed tone.
Samir Srivastav, CEO, Jean-Claude Biguine Salon & Spa, on why borrowing someone else’s style is the greatest faux pas.
Set your closet “From simple tailored shirts to well cut chinos and that quintessential suit, one need not resort to fancy labels or priced accessories to build your wardrobe. My favourite is a white shirt; you can’t go wrong with it. I also recommend a cashmere jumper for adding a chic layer to your outfit. Another staple is a good pair of blue jeans and well-fitted chinos. For a more formal approach, opt for a smart single-breasted suit in black and grey. In shoes, a smart pair of brown brogues and black leather lace-ups are a must.”
One trend to avoid “Ill-fitted or baggy clothes. It doesn’t flatter your body. It makes you appear frumpy and looks unprofessional.”
Brunch with the boys “In a more casual scenario, a polo shirt with slim fit jeans and loafers completes the look. If you feel like stepping it up, go the linen way. A breezy grey linen suit with a crew neck T-shirt paired with suede monk strap shoes will amp your style quotient.”

Fashion faux pas “The greatest faux pas is trying to borrow someone else’s style. Imitation is suicidal. Style is all about the individual. One man’s chic may be another man’s faux pas.”

A pop of colour “A rich wine hue is an underplayed tone. Sitting between versatile neutral and statement colour, it epitomises elegance and could be a formal favourite or a key casual.”

One fashion item men should invest in “A statement watch will never let you down. I don’t collect a lot of watches and tend to switch between classics and dressier variants. But a vintage Roman dial with a good leather strap is a timeless piece that displays a lot of character.”

“Another cardinal fashion blunder is to only focus on the garbs and not pay heed to your footwear. Gentlemen who understand fashion, know that it often starts from the feet up. A pair of tan derbies works wonders with navy and grey colours. But my personal pet peeve is socks sported with sandals or floaters.”
One accessory you wish would make a comeback “There is something very regal and ethereal about cravats — the forefather of all ties.”
Style advice “For men who are heavier in the middle, the trick is to wear clothes that highlight the right areas, while diverting eyes from their midsection. Avoid tight fitted shirts/Tshirts and try to slim down your pants. Alternatively, a good pair of low rise jeans that stop just before your gut is a great way to proportionate your outfit.”
You can never go wrong with… “A smart leather holdall.”
Going from 9 am to 9 pm “Wear a wrinkle-free shirt to avoid creases.”
Style icons “Anand Mahindra, David Beckham and Rai Sinh Jadeja of Maliya.”
