Pregnancy cravings are pretty common. In an interview with Sony Vizha, actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who is currently expecting her first child with director-producer Raj Nidimoru, opened up about craving certain foods during her pregnancy. The Ma Inti Bangaaram star revealed that, like a true-blue South Indian, she craved traditional South Indian cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For breakfast, she was fond of idlis. For lunch, she was often in the mood for curd rice. For dinner, she often relished a dosa. Aside from being delicious, many of these dishes also have amazing nutritional value.

Idli Is The Perfect Low-Calorie Dish

In a video, Dr Pal Manickam, a gastroenterologist and gut health expert, explained how this iconic South Indian snack is also a good option for people who want something delectable but low in calories. Idli is made of fermented rice and lentil batter, which is not just low in calories but also promotes good gut bacteria such as Lactobacillus in the gut, which supports not only your digestive health but also improves immunity.

Health Benefits Of Curd Rice

Cooked rice and yoghurt (curd) are combined to make curd rice, a classic Indian dish that is frequently seasoned with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green chillies. For ages, people have relied on this simple, hearty, and probiotic-rich meal to promote intestinal health. According to LGI Hospitals, these are the health benefits of curd rice.

Promotes Digestive Health

Live cultures found in curd rice, such as beneficial Lactobacillus bacteria, can support the maintenance of a balanced gut microbiota. Digestion, vitamin absorption, immunity, and defence against pathogenic microorganisms may all benefit from this.

Aids in the Absorption of Nutrients

The absorption of minerals like calcium and magnesium can be enhanced by a better intestinal environment.

Could Help with Weight Control

Curd rice is a helpful supplement to a balanced diet since it can be substantial without being overly heavy.

Has a Cooling Effect

Curd rice, which is traditionally thought of as cooling, might ease stomach discomfort and feel calming after rich or spicy meals.
