Samantha Ruth Prabhu, mother-to-be, drops pics of baby shower ceremony, explains significance of Kalaa Aavarana ritual: ‘The mother is honoured as the Devi…’

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is currently on cloud nine. She is all set to welcome her first child with husband Raj Nidimoru. Taking to Instagram on Monday, the Maa Inti Bangaaram star shared some pictures of her seemantham ceremony. The actress looked resplendent in a bright orange churadidar with a garland around her, sitting with her eyes closed, a serene expression on her face as water was poured on her. The actress acknowledged that she doesn’t know the significance of many rituals but she does believe in the power of mantras that are chanted, the energy released through rituals and the benefits it can bring to people,” she wrote.

The actress also explained the meaning and significance of Kalaa Aavarana (Sri Kalpam) ritual.

Kalaa Aavarana Ritual Honours The Many Faces Of The Devi

Sri Kalpam, another name for Kalaa Aavarana, is a unique ceremonial activity that has its roots in the Srividya spiritual tradition. Through the seven energy centers connected to the pregnant mother, the ceremony honours the 94 kalas, which stand for the various sacred qualities and incarnations of the Goddess. Purified water is used to trigger and awaken these chakras and the ceremony is accompanied by a concert of chants so that the divine consciousness passes through the mother to be.

Mother As A Sacred Devi

The actres explained that what really moved her was how the mother was seen as a sacred manifestation of the devi herself, as a creator through whom another life is taking form. “It is a blessing for the child growing within her and also for the woman who is being born into a new version of herself,” she wrote.

A Holy Protection Before Birth

The actress noted how the future mother is seated in the Sri Chakra Yantram's sacred centre following the abhishekam. This ceremony consists of nine aavaranas which is a metaphor for various phases of the spiritual journey. The bindu, a single point that represents the origin of creation and Lalita Tripurasundari's blessings, is placed at the core... The names of the gods and celestial energies connected to these nine enclosures are sung during the Devi Khadgamaala recitation. In order to guide the thoughts inside and invoke blessings and protection, the recitation metaphorically progresses from the outer layers toward the centre The chantings and the ceremony is believed to create a protective halo around the mother and her child and to bless the infant with a sacred smskaara - a spiritual imprint before their first breath in this world.

Samantha wed director-producer Raj Nidimoru on December 2025 at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore. The pair have collaborated professionally in several projects such as The Family Man and Citadel: Honey Bunny before.

Aside from her personal joy, Samantha is also on a professional high. Her last on-screen outing Ma Inti Bangaaram was a blockbuster, earning more than Rs 100 crore at the box office.
