'LoveYatri' in SC: Apex court to hear plea by Salman Khan; stays FIR against film's producers

NEW DELHI: Actor Salman Khan has approached the Supreme Court and sought its intervention following a controversy that broke out over his production, 'LoveYatri'. The Chief Justice of India, Dipak Mishra, will be hearing the matter later today.

The film, which is slated to release on October 5, has been cleared by the Censor Board of Film Certification .

It ran into rough weather after an FIR was registered in Bihar, and a criminal complaint in Gujarat. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had opposed the earlier title "LoveRatri", which according to them distorted the meaning of the Hindu festival, Navratri.


Following VHP protests, the actor, who is also the producer of the film, had changed the name from 'LoveRatri' to 'LoveYatri'.


Earlier, talking about the new title in an interview the actor had said, "Love is a journey. There are people whose journey of love is long and there are people whose journey of love is short. I think even if a person is unlucky in love, he is still lucky because if you have short journeys in love then there is nothing better."

Directed by Abhiraj Minawal, 'LoveYatri' is set in Gujarat during the Navratri festival and features Salman's brother-in-law Aayush Sharma and newcomer Warina Hussain in the lead roles.
