Sachin Tendulkar is over the moon after the news of his niece getting honored with an award for her academic excellence. As a proud uncle, he celebrated the occasion by sharing a post on Instagram about how proud he is of her. Dr Karishma Tendulkar was recognised and honored for her work in surgical research in ophthalmology.

The young doctor shared her academic and career update on Instagram where she expressed her gratitude for winning the Bell Pharma Award for the Best surgical research paper by a young ophthalmologist at the Maharashtra Ophthalmological Society Annual Conference (MOSCON) 2026 in Mumbai. She also acknowledged her mentors.

Her uncle, Sachin, quickly shared the news on his timeline expressing his love and admiration for her, but with a humorous touch.

The renowned cricketer joined the celebrations. Sharing a congratulatory message, the cricket legend said he was proud of his niece and joked that her achievement meant he would be telling everyone about it. He said, "A big congratulations to my niece, Karishma! It’s lovely to see your hard work being recognised. By the way, I hope you know that this achievement comes with an uncle who’s going to be telling everyone about it. So proud of you!"

Karishma responded warmly, thanking her “Sachu kaka” and saying that his support meant a lot to her. She also called him her inspiration.

Who is Karishma Tendulkar?

According to the NAMAH Eye website, Dr. Karishma Tendulkar is a vitreoretinal surgeon who specialises in uvea and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). She is also the founder and director of NAMAH Superspeciality Eye Care in Pune.

Her specialised training includes an advanced fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery, uvea and retinopathy of prematurity at Narayana Nethralaya in Bengaluru. She also completed a short-term comprehensive fellowship at Anil Kulkarni Eye Hospital in Miraj.

Karishma Tendulkar’s education

As per information available, Dr Karishma Tendulkar holds a Master of Surgery (MS) in Ophthalmology degree from Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre in Pune, where she secured first rank in ophthalmology.

Before pursuing her postgraduate studies, she earned her MBBS degree from Mahatma Gandhi Mission Medical College and Hospital in Navi Mumbai.

Karishma is the daughter of Nitin Tendulkar, Sachin Tendulkar’s brother, and Meena Tendulkar.
