Rupali Ganguly needs no introduction. She is one of the most renowned faces on Indian television and is widely recognised as the lead star of the long-running hit drama Anupamaa. As of March 2026, she continues to be among the highest-paid actresses in the television industry. Rupali first rose to fame with her role as Dr Simran Chopra in Sanjivani: A Medical Boon and later became a household name for her comic performance as Monisha Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Recently, filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan visited the actress’s childhood home in Worli, sharing a rare glimpse into her early life and family history.

A look inside Rupali Ganguly's childhood home in Mumbai

During the visit, Rupali shared that her family has lived in the same modest two-bedroom apartment for nearly five decades. Her mother revealed that they moved into the home shortly after her marriage, making it the family’s first house. Over the years, the apartment has remained largely unchanged, preserving countless memories from Rupali’s childhood.

The actress explained that her late father, filmmaker Anil Ganguly, chose the location because it was close to the office of Rajshri Productions as well as the residence of actor Deven Verma, both of whom were close to him professionally and personally. At the time, Worli was not considered a popular residential area for film personalities, but the location was convenient for his work and relationships in the industry.

The house itself features a simple and nostalgic lifestyle. The two-BHK apartment features white walls, brown-toned interiors, and a long corridor that opens into the bedrooms, kitchen, dining space, and a combined living and sitting area. The living room holds special emotional value, as it displays photographs and awards belonging to Anil Ganguly, serving as a tribute to his legacy and achievements in Indian cinema.

More about Rupali's childhood bedroom

One of the most surprising revelations during the tour came when Farah Khan asked Rupali about her childhood bedroom. The actress shared that she did not have a separate room while growing up and used to sleep in the living room, while her brother had his own bedroom.

Reacting with surprise, Farah questioned the arrangement, to which Rupali’s mother explained that her daughter often stayed up late and had a habit of bringing stray animals home. Because of this, sleeping in the living area was more practical for the family.

The home also preserves several sentimental objects that have been part of the family for decades. The dining area, for instance, features a table that is nearly 50 years old and was originally gifted to Rupali’s parents at the time of their wedding. The apartment’s décor, including arched doorways, large windows that allow natural light to flow in, and carefully maintained furniture, gives the space a warm and timeless feel.

During the visit, Farah Khan also toured Rupali’s brother’s room, which contrasts with the simplicity of the living area. The space is neatly arranged, with bright walls, a comfortable bed, and storage units, reflecting how the apartment evolved with the family’s needs over the years.

Towards the end of the visit, Rupali opened up about her busy professional life. She explained that her hectic shooting schedule had made it difficult for her to find time for such a visit earlier. According to the actress, "I shoot for 28 days a month, 12 hours a day. My voice is also strained because I’ve been shouting for the past two days.”

The video has since struck a chord with fans, who appreciated the glimpse into the humble beginnings of one of television’s biggest stars. Stay tuned for such house tours!
