'Run free, sweet Happy': Ambani family pens emotional tribute as beloved dog passes away

The Ambani family is grieving the loss of one of their most cherished and youngest members—Happy, their golden retriever—who passed away on April 30. More than just a pet, Happy was a beloved companion and a constant presence at some of the family’s most important celebrations, making him a celebrity in his own right within India's most high-profile household.

The news of Happy’s passing was shared by celebrity photographer Viral Bhayani, who revealed that the family paid a heartfelt tribute to their golden retriever.

Veer Pahariya, a close family friend, shared glimpses from the memorial, which included a beautifully decorated tribute space and an emotional note that captured the family's grief.

He also shared a glimpse of Ambani family's note.

“In the loving memory of beloved Happy. It is with heavy heart that we share the sad news of the passing of our beloved dog, Happy. More than just a pet, he was family—a loyal companion, a source of comfort, and a constant presence of unconditional love. The joy HAPPY brought into our lives will never be forgotten. From the playful moments to the quiet times of companionship, his memory will forever live in our hearts. Run free, sweet Happy. You will be deeply missed, always loved and never forgotten,” read the family's note.

Happy was the owner of a luxurious car

Happy wasn’t just a symbol of affection—he was treated with the kind of luxury reserved for royalty. Anant Ambani, known for his love for animals, reportedly bought a Rs 2.55–3 crore worth Mercedes-Benz G400d SUV exclusively for Happy. According to a post by Automobili Ardent India, this luxury diesel SUV was used solely to chauffeur the pup.

Happy was more than a companion; he was family, and that status extended to every key celebration in the Ambani household. He was the official ring bearer at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s engagement in January 2023 and was present at the pre-wedding festivities in Jamnagar, where he appeared in family portraits. Most memorably, Happy attended the couple’s wedding on July 12, 2024, at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai, dressed to impress.

The adorable retriever wore a pink Banarasi silk brocade jacket at the mandap, a look that quickly went viral online. The outfit, crafted by Pankh Designer Pet Wear in Mumbai, was made from pure silk jacquard fabric.
