Rumbling stomach is healthy? Harvard-trained gastro doctor shares what it means
Contrary to common belief, many "weird" body signals are actually signs of good health. A gastroenterologist explained that regular gas, light yellow urine, sweating during exercise, consistent bowel movements, stomach rumbling, healthy gums, burp...

Dr Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at Harvard and Stanford, recently shared insights on what he described as unusual but completely normal signs of a healthy body.
He explained that many everyday bodily functions people worry about are actually indicators that internal systems are functioning properly, especially digestion, hydration, circulation and gut health.
Passing gas regularly
Dr Sethi noted that passing gas is a normal result of gut bacteria breaking down food. It reflects an active and functioning digestive system rather than a problem. In fact, it is a sign that the gut microbiome is doing its job properly.Light yellow urine
He explained that urine colour is a simple but powerful health indicator. Clear or light yellow urine usually suggests good hydration and proper kidney function, meaning the body is effectively filtering waste.Sweating during exercise
Sweating is often seen as uncomfortable, but it plays a crucial role in regulating body temperature. According to Dr Sethi, sweating during physical activity shows that the body’s cooling system is functioning normally and efficiently.Stomach rumbling
One of the most misunderstood signs is stomach rumbling. Dr Sethi explained that these gurgling sounds are caused by the movement of food, gas and fluids through the intestines. Far from being a warning sign, it actually indicates that the digestive tract is active and functioning properly.Healthy gums
He added that gums should not bleed during brushing in a healthy mouth. Bleeding gums can point to inflammation or poor oral hygiene, while firm, non-bleeding gums suggest good oral health.Burping after carbonated drinks
Burping is simply the body releasing excess gas from the stomach. Dr Sethi noted that this helps prevent bloating and discomfort, making it a normal and even helpful response after consuming fizzy drinks.Skin elasticity
He also mentioned a simple skin test. When the skin is gently pinched and quickly returns to its original position, it often indicates good hydration and healthy elasticity, both signs of overall well-being.Together, these observations highlight a simple idea. Many body functions that feel strange or inconvenient are often just the body working as designed. Stomach rumbling, in particular, is not something to fear but something that reflects movement, activity and balance within the digestive system.
