Rs 600 cr in 6 days! SRK starrer ‘Pathaan’ creates box-office history

‘Pathaan’ is in no mood to relinquish its iron grip over the box office. The Shah Rukh Khan comeback has achieved a historic feat: earning Rs 600 crore in six days!

Entertainment industry tracker Ramesh Bala took to Twitter to announce the collections of the SRK-Deepika Padukone starrer. “ ‘Pathaan’ crosses Rs 600 crore WW gross in 6 days. Holding very well on weekdays.”
The movie is demolishing box-office records both domestically as well as overseas. It collected more than Rs 500 crore at the worldwide box office at the end of one week.


The Siddharth Anand directorial also enjoyed the highest opening day collection by a Hindi movie. It minted Rs 57 crore domestically on the first day. According to a Box Office India report, the movie collected Rs 68 crore on Thursday, Rs 38 crore on Friday, Rs 51 crore on Saturday, Rs 58 crore on Sunday, and Rs 25 crore on Monday (January 30).

Aside from its phenomenal performance domestically, the movie also did considerably well overseas. According to a Variety report, the espionage thriller enjoyed the highest opening day for a Hindi language film with $1.86 million! The Deepika Padukone-John Abraham starrer also collected the best per-theatre average of any recent release in the USA: $1.86 million through just 694 sites.

On Monday, Khan thanked his fans for showering love and appreciation on his comeback venture at a press conference. He said that his fans “brought life back to cinema.” He also talked at length about his four-year hiatus.

He revealed that he had contemplated an alternative career as a restaurateur as his movies were underperforming at the box office and had even learned to make Italian cuisine! He also highlighted that the main purpose of films is to entertain audiences from all walks of life, without hurting any sentiments. Referring to himself, Padukone, and Abraham as “Amar Akbar Anthony”, he emphasised that what makes Indian cinema unique is its celebration of diversity and inclusion.

“This is Deepika, she is Amar, I’m Shah Rukh Khan, I’m Akbar, and John he is Anthony… We are ‘Amar, Akbar, Anthony’. And this is what makes cinema… There are no differences any one of us have with any culture. We are hungry for the audience’s love. All these crores are not important… The love we receive…nothing is bigger than that,” the actor was quoted as saying.

Khan will next be seen in the action-adventure ‘Jawan’ opposite Tamil superstar Nayanthara. He will also collaborate with Raj Kumar Hirani for the social drama ‘Dunki’.
