Rs 3 crore net worth, abroad job offer and no family dependency: 37-year-old still unable to decide because of one catch
A 37-year-old Indian woman earning Rs 20 lakh annually is contemplating a move abroad for a better lifestyle, despite her comfortable financial situation. The opportunity offers a double salary hike and improved civic conditions, but the contractu...

Woman torn between comfort and change
The woman began her Reddit post by admitting that she resides in her own apartment in a Tier-1 city. With a net worth of approximately Rs 3 crore, including real estate, and an annual remuneration of Rs 20 lakh in a stable, non-hectic and on-site role, the working professional described her lifestyle as low-cost and modest. Much like her, her parents, living in proximity to her residence, are also financially independent with assets ranging between Rs 5-6 crore. The employee revealed that a contractual job opportunity in a more developed Asian country had put her in a tough spot. Although the particular job came with a double salary hike, coupled with improved civic conditions compared to a majority of Indian cities and a better infrastructure, the woman confessed that the contractual nature of the employment made her worried. However, she is unmarried, does not want to have children and plans to retire by 50. Given the conditions, the woman was in two minds: whether choosing marginal improvement in quality of life was worth starting over in a non-English-speaking country as a foreigner.
Reddit users give thumbs-up
Reddit users shared their two cents on the woman in the comments section. Encouraging her to shift, an individual pointed out that she would not only gain experience but also increase her savings, highlighting that it might serve as a good living experience. “Chill on their beaches”, they added. Echoing a similar sentiment, one person noted that since “India is a low-trust society”, one is forced to be hypervigilant at all times. Hence, it is “absolutely worth it” to grab the new opportunity. A Redditor emphasised that shifting overseas meant adapting to change. His suggestion to the woman was that she sell her apartment once completely settled in the foreign land.
