'Rs 2 crore debt, now just 10-15% left': Rupali Ganguly co-actor reveals how his sisters quit high-paying jobs in the US to support him
Actor Rajesh Kumar, known for his beloved character Roshesh Sarabhai, once quit acting to take up farming. However, his organic venture suffered heavy financial losses. Recently, he revealed that his sisters, who had been living abroad for years, ...

What began as a passion soon turned into a challenging journey. Rajesh ventured into organic and “family farming,” hoping to build something sustainable. But things didn’t go as planned, and the actor found himself dealing with serious financial losses. In a recent interview, he opened up about this difficult phase and revealed how his family, especially his sisters, stood by him during the crisis.
Sisters step in with a life-changing decision
In a surprising turn of events, Rajesh shared that his sisters, who had been living abroad for over 25 years, decided to leave their well-settled lives to support him. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, the actor recalled how the decision unfolded. He shared, "I’ll tell you a very funny incident. After I became obsessed with agriculture, my sisters—who have been citizens of the US and Finland for the past 25 years, decided to join me. Around my 50th birthday in January this year, my elder sister, who is four years older than me, resigned from her job in America and flew down to India. That was her birthday gift to me. She came to Bihar and told me, ‘You take a backseat and focus on acting, I’ll handle farming here'."
Rajesh further revealed that this decision inspired his younger sister, who was based in Finland, to follow suit. She too quit her job and joined the family’s farming venture a few months later. Their support, he said, came at a time when he needed it the most.
Financial setbacks and a tough phase
Going forward, Rajesh did not shy away from speaking about the financial struggles he faced. His farming venture, which initially began with supplying organic vegetables to friends, eventually led to losses of over Rs 2 crore. Despite the setback, he reassured that he has managed to come out of the worst phase. He shared that only about 10-15% of his debt remains now and expressed optimism about the future. He hinted that he is working on something new in the farming space, which he believes will surprise people.
Failures, floods and starting from scratch
The journey, however, was far from smooth. Rajesh recalled how he had taken 20 acres of land on rent in Palghar in 2019 to expand his farming efforts. But an unexpected flood destroyed more than 15,000 saplings, dealing a major blow to his plans. At one point, things became so challenging that he had to sell vegetables outside his son’s school to make ends meet. He also revealed that his financial situation worsened to the extent that his EMIs started bouncing and recovery agents began visiting his home.
Despite hitting rock bottom, Rajesh did not give up. He recalled a particularly tough moment when he had just Rs 2,500 in his bank account while travelling for work abroad. Even then, he continued to push forward, balancing acting assignments with his responsibilities back home.
Today, while he has returned to acting, his passion for farming remains intact. With his sisters now actively involved, Rajesh seems to be rebuilding both his career and his agricultural dream, this time with stronger support and renewed determination. Stay tuned!
