RPG Enterprises chairman Harsh Goenka's staff still not used to calling him by the first name
As work culture in Indian companies becomes less stiff by the day, some top bosses are following suit. In a move that signals the changing equations between superiors and other team members, RPG Enterprises chairman Harsh Goenka recently revealed that he was persuading his employees to call him by his first name instead of the traditional "Sir" or "Mr Goenka". So more than one month down the line, has Goenka's suggestion been heeded? "I find people are still not used to calling me by my fist name," he says. "My idea was to let everyone know that they have a choice. For young people starting their careers, this was an attempt to f latten out the turf and signal accessibility from their managers."

Goenka never enjoyed being referred to as "Sir" at his workplace in the first place. He says, "It will be much easier to be just 'Harsh'. Yes, there are colleagues who call me by my first name, but there are many others who continue to regard me as Mr Goenka. I am eager to find out how successful we will be in changing this culture." All in good time, perhaps.
