Post retirement, Kaluwitharana found himself take up coaching roles and also venture into the hospitality sector.

His explosive batting would often get most commentators animated in their reactions. One of his biggest fans probably was the late Tony Greig who would often get a tad too excited every time “Little Kalu“ rained fours and sixes. A safe pair of hands behind the stumps and his batting prowess made him a key figure in the resurgence of Sri Lankan cricket, beginning with the World Cup victory in 1996.
Post retirement, Kaluwitharana found himself take up coaching roles and also venture into the hospitality sector. He now runs a jungle retreat in Sri Lanka called 'Kalu's Hideaway'.
Located close to the Uda Walawe National Park between Colombo and the Sri Lankan South Coast, the picturesque resort has earned itself quite a reputation among tourists and is favourably rated by safari enthusiasts and lovers of the outdoor.
So, the next time you have Sri Lanka on your travel list and some fun hikes, wildlife spotting and bird watching on your mind, make sure you call on Little Kalu. He might just regale you with a few fun tales from the glory days.
