While Romanchakam is currently playing in theatres, audiences wondering when they can watch it from home may have to wait a little longer.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Netflix has acquired the digital rights to the movie. However, the streaming platform and the makers have not yet announced the official OTT release date. The film is expected to arrive on Netflix after its theatrical run.
Romanchakam story and cast
Romanchakam follows Anvesh, played by Sumanth Prabhas, a young engineering graduate from Hyderabad. Rather than immediately settling into a conventional career, Anvesh is focused on building a startup with his friends. His plans, however, take an unexpected turn when he meets Mythili.Ananthika Sanilkumar plays Mythili, who comes from Chennai. The two begin getting to know each other through conversations and shared experiences. What starts as a simple connection gradually develops into a romantic relationship, forming the emotional centre of the story.
But the film does not remain a straightforward love story. Mythili’s decision to visit Hyderabad changes the situation for Anvesh and his friends. Her arrival sets off a chain of events that brings romance, comedy and suspense into the picture.
What was supposed to be a relatively simple meeting soon becomes much more complicated. Anvesh and his friends find themselves caught in situations that are increasingly difficult to manage.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga's connection with Romanchakam
The film has also attracted attention because of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s association with the project. The filmmaker, who made his directorial debut with the Telugu film Arjun Reddy before making the Hindi-language Kabir Singh and Animal, is associated with Romanchakam as a presenter.Vanga has produced the movie alongside his brother Pranay Reddy. His involvement helped generate curiosity around the project even before its theatrical release, particularly because the film comes from a relatively new director.
For Venu Gopal Reddy, Romanchakam is an important first step as a filmmaker. The movie was positioned as a complete entertainer, with its story moving between romance, humour and suspense instead of staying within a single genre.
The film released in theatres on September 3 and is still in the early stages of its theatrical journey. With its digital rights reportedly secured by Netflix, the next major update audiences are waiting for is the streaming date.
Romanchakam box office collection
Romanchakam opened with Rs 1.50 crore in India net on its first day, according to Sacnilk. The film recorded the collection across 1,210 shows and registered 29% occupancy. On its second day, the movie collected Rs 1.26 crore India net from 951 shows. This marked a 16% decline compared with its opening-day collection. However, its occupancy increased slightly to 30% on Day 2.
With the second-day collection added, Romanchakam has earned Rs 2.76 crore in India net so far. Its India gross collection stands at Rs 3.22 crore.
The film will now have to rely on audience response and weekend collections to build momentum at the box office. Meanwhile, its reported Netflix deal gives the movie another window to reach viewers once its theatrical run is complete.
For now, there is no confirmed OTT premiere date. Stay tuned to see how it perfoms at the box office.
