Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart's Twilight returns as an animated series Midnight Sun: When and where to watch

The Twilight Saga became a pop culture sensation back in the day. The first film, Twilight, premiered in 2008, followed by 4 blockbuster sequels: New Moon (2009), Eclipse (2010), Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011), and Part 2 (2012). The film franchise brought Stephenie Meyer's bestselling vampire romance novels to life and all of them received a euphoric response. Now, there’s another major update for Twilight lovers. The beloved franchise is ready to be released as an animated series, Midnight Sun. This is yet again an adaptation of Meyer's 2020 Twilight companion book of the same title.

Twilight’s Midnight Sun animated series adaptation

Entertainment company Lionsgate has announced that Midnight Sun will premiere on Netflix with not one but two seasons, as per a report by What’s on Netflix. The Chairman of the Lionsgate Television Group, Kevin Beggs, shared the exciting update at Lionsgate’s Q2 2027 earnings call on November 5.

Netflix and Lionsgate’s collaboration was first made public back in 2024, reported What’s on Netflix. As per the novel, Midnight Sun narrates the sequence of events featured in Twilight from the perspective of Edward Cullen.

What to expect from the adaptation

At the event, Kevin Beggs revealed that the Midnight Sun adaptation was the direct result of Stephenie Meyer's love of television and animation. ‘Stephenie and her team are very hands-on, really running the process along with us at Netflix,’ Beggs said, adding that Lionsgate has ‘high expectations’ for the series.

In the same conversation, Lionsgate's Motion Picture Group Chairman Adam Fogelson shared that the studio is confident that fans are ‘desperate’ for more Twilight-related content and that conversations about the franchise on the film side are also underway, reported CBR. The release date of Midnight Sun has not been revealed as of yet.
