RJ Mitte rose to fame in ‘Breaking Bad’ and championed disability rights
Breaking bad actor RJ Mitte, who had famously played the role of Walter White Jr., has passed away at the age of 34 in Brownsville, Texas. Mitte, an actor with cerebral palsy, created his acting career on TV and films while promoting better disability representation.

"It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte," his representative told the BBC.

Mitte, born in Jackson, Mississippi, was adopted and raised near his mother, Dyna Mitte and grandparents. In an interview with The Guardian in 2016, Mitte said that his parents got divorced when he was nine months of age, and his father was not very involved in his upbringing.

Mitte also spoke about the responsibilities he took on at a young age. His mother was left paralysed for six years after a car accident, and he helped care for his younger sister, Lacey.

“By 13, I was the main breadwinner for my family,” he told The Guardian, describing the experience as “scary but necessary.” He began working as an extra before his acting career developed into more substantial roles.

In October 2025, Mitte proposed to his longtime partner, Kennedy Suarez, according to People.

How much was RJ Mitte worth?

According to Men’s Journal, Mitte’s net worth was estimated at $500,000 in 2026, citing Celebrity Net Worth. However, the figure has not been independently verified. His income came from acting, voice work and producing, including projects beyond Breaking Bad.

In a November 2025 appearance on The Iced Coffee Hour podcast, Mitte described losing money after hiring a business manager to oversee his finances as a teenager. He said the manager had diverted funds intended for tax payments.

“I’ve paid more in taxes than I got from Breaking Bad,” Mitte said during the interview, as reported by Men’s Journal.

A career beyond ‘Breaking Bad’

Mitte appeared in all five seasons of Breaking Bad, playing the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White. He later appeared in Switched at Birth, The Guardians of Justice and independent films, including The Oak Room and Triumph.

Beyond acting, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s and led the Mitte Foundation. His representatives remembered him as a passionate disability rights advocate who used his platform to promote inclusion and challenge stereotypes.
