Rimi cited her Dhoom (2004) co-star John Abraham as a prime example of this approach. She described him as a “very intelligent actor” who recognized his early limitations and made conscious choices that helped him navigate the film industry effectively.
Early Career Struggles and Strategic Choices
Rimi recalled that when John Abraham entered Bollywood, he faced criticism for his acting skills. “In the beginning, he was a model and people often said he couldn’t act. He didn’t respond to the criticism, but instead focused on roles where he looked convincing,” she explained. According to Rimi, Abraham strategically chose parts—mainly action-oriented roles—that highlighted his strengths and required minimal acting. This approach allowed him to maintain a strong screen presence while avoiding situations that exposed his inexperience. She added that this self-awareness was key to his growth. “He picked roles where he looked proper, where the audience wouldn’t question his performance. That, in my opinion, was very intelligent. Gradually, as he gained recognition, he learned acting through experience in front of the camera,” Rimi said.
Rimi further praised Abraham for evolving his career once he became established. After gaining familiarity with acting and building a credible identity in films, he began taking on roles that allowed him to showcase his acting skills. Beyond acting, John Abraham expanded into production and business, delivering hit films with strong audience approval. “He knew his limitations and used them wisely. Over time, he gained experience, took up roles with scope for acting, and even succeeded as a producer and businessman,” Rimi observed.
Rimi Sen’s Own Transition to Dubai
Alongside her reflections on John Abraham, Rimi spoke about her personal journey after leaving Bollywood. She relocated to Dubai to focus on her real estate venture, appreciating the city’s welcoming environment and business-friendly policies. “Dubai has welcomed everyone warmly. The city’s focus is on making people’s lives easier and more comfortable, which is something we don’t always see back home with constantly changing regulations,” she shared.Rimi Sen, once a popular face in 2000s Bollywood with films like Hungama, Golmaal, Phir Hera Pheri, and Dhoom, has successfully reinvented herself beyond the film industry, using her experiences and observations in cinema as lessons for career strategy and personal growth.
