Bombay HC defers Richa Chadha's Rs 1.1 cr-defamation suit against Payal Ghosh to tomorrow
The HC has asked for the documents to be re-served on the defendants once again.

MUMBAI: Actor Richa Chadha filed a defamation suit for Rs 1.1 crore in damages from actor Payal Ghosh and others including unknown persons over "defamatory statements" made against her in an interview to a news channel.
The matter was heard before Justice Anil Menon of the Bombay High Court on Monday. When it came up for a virtual hearing via video-conferencing Chhada's counsel Virendra Tulzapurkar and Saveena Bedi Sachar said though served the other side was not represented before the court. No one appeared for Ghosh or others.
The HC then directed that the matter be listed on October 7, 2020 and has asked for the documents to be re-served on the defendants once again. The court deferred the proceedings as the defendants had not been served notices.
Chadha is seeking interim and permanent relief against Ghosh and others from publishing any allegedly defamatory content against her or "using her name in any defamatory manner whatsoever, in relation to any disputes between Ghosh and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap". She has also sought that all online content published be withdrawn immediately and an apology be tendered by Payal and others.
Her plea is that Ghosh and others allegedly attempted to drag her (Chadha) into alleged claims against a third person which is not only false, frivolous and vexatious but also done with an intent to cause damage to the immense goodwill she has acquired through years of hardwork" in the film industry.
The loss to her "reputation" is "irreparable" and "continuous" said Chadha to court and she had "suffered tremendous humiliation and stress" and hence she has craved leave of the court to increase the damages later if required. She has however said that the "quantum of damages'' may be increased due to "continue effects" of the "defamatory acts".
