Restaurant Review: Sweet beginnings at Sugar Rush

Sugar Rush may be too pink and cute, but their pastries deliver in content.

Restaurant Review: Sweet beginnings at Sugar Rush
If you are looking for a manly no-nonsense place to nurse a stiff coffee, you may find Sugar Rush too cute and pink. Teenagers and young adults may take to the decor, though. Besides, the display is full of attractive pastries, cookies, biscottis and cakes.

Caffeine lovers can choose from espressos, cappuccinos and hot chocolate cuppas ranging from Rs 60 to Rs 120. Fresh fruit juices are priced at Rs 150. Sandwiches and other eatables to nibble on will hit the counters soon, says Rushda Azmi Shaikh, the owner of the café patisserie in Bandra.

We visited on Saturday evening for some pre-dinner treats. The star attractions were the pastries and cupcakes free of artificial flavouring and essences. Fruit puree is used to make the blueberry and cranberry cupcakes.

The Mud Pie (Rs 160) is dark and gooey. Hazlenut crunch (Rs 160), another round little pastry, is fresh, soft and melts as you bite into it. Sugar Rush's version of Walnut Pie (Rs 160) is stuffed with glazed walnut chunks and you can feel the dry fruit with each bite, making you feel less guilty about indulging your sweet tooth.

Mini cupcakes at Rs 25 are competitively priced and Red Velvet layers in a glass jar are a steal at Rs 150. Oatmeal cookies, chocolate chips, almond biscottis at Rs 165 per pack are fresh and crunchy. Sugar Rush's challenge is now to sustain the quality and service.
