Restaurant Review: Head for a lazy Sunday brunch to The Sassy Spoon in Bandra

After teasing us for several weeks, the second Sassy Spoon finally opens in Bandra.

Restaurant Review: Head for a lazy Sunday brunch to The Sassy Spoon in Bandra
The first impression of Sassy Spoon is that it's not so much sassy as it is beautiful. Tastefully done up in subdued tones, the interior has pops of colours on the chairs, innovative lighting and our favourite, an entire wall dedicated to bread boxes.

We started the meal with the Smoked Bacon & Sweet Corn Soup (Rs 290) and Watermelon & Smoked Ham Salad (Rs 370). The soup is comfort food at its best — warm, filling and with a guiltinducing bacon flavour.

The salad had a lot of smoked ham that was well balanced with the sweet melon and sharp pomelo. Their Between Pois (Rs 350) range includes classics like Goan Sausage, Crispy Chicken, Grilled Chicken and Crumbed Cottage Cheese.

The vegetarian option surprised us with its texture and well-rounded taste. And the trend of the vegetarian food being a notch above the non-vegetarian fare was also seen with their Flat Breads, with the Eggplant Caponata (Rs 490) scoring high. The skillets disappointed us — there was just too much going on.

The Goa Sausage with Mac and Cheese (Rs 575) was a great example of too many delicious things just not getting along. The South African Bobotie (Rs 525) didn't impress us either. However, with mains like Spaghetti with Lemon, Parmesan and Almond Flakes (Rs 490) we soon forgot our disappointment.

Dessert was a mixed bag — the Caramel Peanut Tart (Rs 350) was decadent with crunchy brittle. The Dark Chocolate & Basil Fondant (Rs 350) was a little overpowering, but the basil ice cream served alongside was lovely.

The Sassy Spoon did have a few misses, but it's worth a visit, if not for dinner, then surely for a lazy Sunday breakfast that's on till 4 pm.
