Resident Evil OTT release update: When and where to watch Zach Cregger’s zombie horror movie online

The latest Resident Evil film brings viewers back to a world where a deadly outbreak can turn an ordinary day into a fight for survival. Directed by Zach Cregger, the zombie horror film opened in US theatres on September 18, 2026, and is now approaching its expected digital release. Those waiting to watch it at home can look forward to its arrival on online rental and purchase platforms, while its subscription streaming date remains uncertain.

When and where to watch Resident Evil online

The 2026 Resident Evil film is expected to arrive on digital platforms on November 3, according to a report by Fiction Horizon. Viewers will be able to rent or purchase the film through services such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home and Google Play Movies.

Earlier estimates had pointed to a possible digital release in mid-to-late October. Sony Pictures films generally move to premium video-on-demand services around a month to six weeks after their theatrical debuts. The reported November date would give Resident Evil a longer theatrical window than some of the studio's recent releases.


For the film's OTT streaming release, Netflix is expected to be the film's streaming home under its agreement with Sony Pictures. As per Forbes, the deal gives Netflix access to Sony films during the Pay-1 window, which follows their theatrical and home-entertainment releases.

However, there is no confirmed Netflix release date for Resident Evil. Estimates have varied, with one projection suggesting a December 2026 arrival and another pointing to January 2027.

The new film is the eighth live-action instalment in the Resident Evil movie franchise and another attempt to reboot the series. Cregger directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten.

Austin Abrams plays Bryan, a medical courier whose delivery to a hospital in Raccoon City takes a dangerous turn after a deadly virus outbreak. As the infection spreads, he finds himself fighting to survive against terrifying creatures.

The cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Johnno Wilson and Paul Walter Hauser. The film draws on the world of Capcom's popular video game franchise, bringing another outbreak-driven horror story to the screen.
