Not too long ago, sweat equity in cricket got India into quite a lather though that did not dampen the popularity of the game. But now that saliva has been proscribed for the time being by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to prevent the possible spread of Covid-19, it is inevitable that sweat has been gaining new equity as competitive cricket returns to the pitch.

While this entails the suppression of the long-established bowlers’ tradition of spit and polish, relying on sweat to swing it portends that perspiration will progress from being an aberration to an aspiration.

That players with hyperhidrosis are already being perceived as assets is not surprising, nor is the speculation that where weather is not conducive to natural perspiration, players will don double layers in order to shine.

Humid India’s sweat equity remains high in the new scenario as genius is famously said to be 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. However, with many team managements on the ball already, other displays of sun-smartness can be expected too.
