High-speed 5G connectivity is still a long way from being rolled out in India. However, that has not deterred Chinese brand Realme from launching the first 5G-enabled handset in India.
Realme X50 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 865 -- Qualcomm’s flagship processor for 2020 -- promising absolutely lag-free performance – whether one is web surfing or gaming intensively. With this, Realme is also offering up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage option.
The phone has a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ display that is nothing less than a treat to watch content movies and play games. You get 90Hz refresh rate and an in-display fingerprint sensor — the two features that are slowly becoming a norm for all flagships.
There is a 32MP wide-angle and an 8MP ultra wide angle camera that will capture detailed images. You also get a 92% screen-to-body ratio, and an almost full-screen display since there is a punch-hole camera set up to house two sensors.

On the back, the X50 Pro has a 64MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP telephoto camera, an 8MP ultra wide-angle sensor and a 2MP portrait camera. Despite all these camera specs, we were not impressed with the image outputs. The bokeh mode was not quite successful in giving desired results and the images in 64MP mode were also not up to the mark.
What impressed us though was the 4200mAh battery with 65W SuperDart Charge –which fully charged the phone in 35 minutes as claimed by the company.
Given the features, the X50 Pro appears to have managed to get the pricing right, setting the bar high for future handsets that enter the premium segment this year.

Tech for energy storage, smart metering, clean cooking, innovative EV solutions, battery technologies, energy monitoring systems and hydro turbine technologies are among the 15 winning start-ups announced and felicitated by Government of India, BIRAC, Tata Trusts, TATA Power and Social Alpha at a felicitation ceremony and innovation showcase of the Social Alpha Energy Challenge 2.0 (SAEC 2.0), last week. The winners were selected from more than 150 applicants across the country which were screened for their unique technology and business model, strong focus on affordability and accessibility and social, economic and environmental impact.
The selection for the winners of Social Alpha Energy Challenge 2.0 was made for two categories respectively - ‘pre-pilot’ and ‘post-pilot’, to address the needs of technologies and start-ups in different stages of product development. The pre-pilot category winners will be supported in their very early stage through handholding and mentorship for product development, including support in physical prototype development and testing. The post-pilot category start-ups are the ones that have crossed the proof of concept stage and have demonstrated a working prototype, and will be supported in the go-to-market execution.
The winners will be incubated by the Clean Energy International Incubation Centre (CEIIC). CEIIC, Social Alpha’s deep-tech Energy Innovation Lab, which is the joint initiative of the Government of India and Tata Trusts, supported by Department of Biotechnology, BIRAC, Tata Power and Tata Power-Delhi Distribution Limited. CEIIC will support entrepreneurs by providing industry and field connect critical for product development .
