The former Infosys boss has a secret trick to beating jet lag.
Business leader Ravi Venkatesan spends not just hours, but days on planes. The former Microsoft India chairman, who hops across time zones, has now become a pro at beating jet lag.

In a recent LinkedIn interview the frequent flier revealed some easy hacks to get one's body to work as per different clocks. And while he does follow the basics - staying hydrated, adjusting the clock to the destination - there's also a secret technique that has kept him flying, literally!

"I learned one tip many years ago which is great," the tycoon, says, of beating jet lag.

He goes on to reveal, "It turns out that the cells that reset your body clock are disproportionately concentrated around your knees, so one of the things I do when I land at a place is, weather permitting, wear shorts and go out."

He's quick to add that while this would mean going for a long run now in the the old days, now it has changed to a long walk. But the 'magic' still works he claims.

And it was on one of these long flights, 6-7 years ago, that Venkatesan had his life, and his outlook on positivity, change.

Sharing a powerful travel anecdote on the power of visualisation, Venkatesan narrated an encounter with a fellow passenger who was on his way to a 6-month vacation. Having been taken by surprise by the idea of a 'six-month-long vacation' Venkatesan asked him, "What do you do? How can you afford six months?"

It was then that his German co-passenger told him the story that would make him believe in the power of visualisation. "I used to be a 747 pilot for Lufthansa, and then I was detected with a brain tumour, which was the size of a ping-pong ball when discovered, and was growing rapidly." he said.

Venkatesan reveals how a co-passenger's story, told to him during a flight, made him believe in the power of visualisation.

After his discharge from Lufthansa, the pilot decided not to opt for chemotherapy or surgery. Rather he tried alternative remedies, but the most important trick - he told Venkatesan - was visualisation.

He said that he 'just sat there many times a day visualising that the tumour's shrinking and he's getting healthier, and healthier, and healthier'. And it worked. The tumour just went away completely.

An awe-struck Venkatesan decided to put this trick to use while he was getting off that flight in Seattle. He says he thought about how the 'immigration guys are always tough' on him, and decided to try the power of positivity and visualisation.

He said to himself, "This time let them be easy, no questions. Let there be no long queues. Let me be out in 10 minutes."

And a smiling Venkatesan reveals that it worked, "It has never happened in Seattle, but that time it did."

It was then that he said, "There's something to this stuff."

The top boss went on to read up on positive thinking and visualisation. And has since 'become a complete believer'.

While one's a tip to beat jet lag, the other trick is one you'll need when the going gets tough.
