This weekend will determine the fate of 'Jayeshbhai Jordaar'.
Ranveer Singh's new movie 'Jayeshbhai Jordaar', which was released on Friday (May 13), has had a gloomy start.

Unlike the other films that were riding the post-pandemic wave before this, the social comedy has had a lukewarm box-office response.

With just Rs 3.25 crore collected on Day 1, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that the weekend will determine the movie's fate.

"'Jayeshbhai Jordaar' has a shockingly low start on Day 1. Day 2 and 3 very crucial," he wrote.

On the release day, the 'Gully Boy' star took to social media to share a new poster of the film. He wrote, "Jayeshbhai aavyo che. (Jayeshbhai is here) #JayeshbhaiJodaar at theatres near you!"

With the film, the makers touched upon several social issues including misogyny and female foeticide with a dash of humour.

The story revolves around Jayeshbhai, played by Singh, the son of a village sarpanch who is under pressure from the family to reproduce a male heir. Things come to a halt when his family finds out the gender of his unborn child and decide to terminate the pregnancy, forcing the mild-mannered Jayeshbhai to finally step up.

This movie marks 'Arjun Reddy' star Shalini Pandey's Hindi cinema debut. She plays Jayeshbhai's pregnant wife in the film. Besides Singh and Pandey, the film also features Boman Irani (Jayeshbhai's father) and Ratna Pathak Shah (Jayeshbhai's mother) in pivotal roles.

The film is produced by Maneesh Sharma, a Yash Raj Films homegrown producer, and directed by debutant writer-director Divyang Thakkar.
