Everything About Vijay-Rashmika’s First Film After Wedding
After weeks of chatter around their wedding and public appearances, Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna are once again in the spotlight, this time for their upcoming historical drama Ranabaali. The film is significant for fans because it marks their first on-screen outing together after tying the knot on February 26 in Udaipur. It also becomes their third collaboration after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.

Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the project has been mounted on a large scale and is being promoted as a pan-Indian release.

Ranabaali OTT release plans

Ranabaali is scheduled to release in theatres on September 11, 2026. The makers have confirmed that after completing its theatrical run, the film will stream on Netflix. However, an exact OTT premiere date has not been announced yet.

The film will be made available in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi, making it accessible to a wide audience across regions. The digital release is expected to follow the usual post-theatrical window.

Story set in colonial India

Set in 19th-century India, Ranabaali draws inspiration from historical events said to have taken place between the mid and late 1800s during British rule. The narrative touches upon a violent and oppressive period, with references to large-scale loss of life and massive economic plunder under colonial occupation. Reports cited within the film’s backdrop mention nearly 100 million deaths and wealth estimated at 45 trillion dollars being looted.

Vijay Deverakonda plays a fierce freedom fighter named Ranabaali, while Rashmika Mandanna essays Jayamma, a character described as emotionally central to the story. The film also features Arnold Vosloo as Sir Theodore Hector, the primary antagonist. Other cast members include Benedict Garrett and others in supporting roles.

First glimpse and AI controversy

The first glimpse of Ranabaali was unveiled on Republic Day 2026. The teaser quickly caught attention for its scale and visual detailing. Soon after its release, a user on X claimed that the teaser appeared to be largely created using artificial intelligence.

Director Rahul Sankrityan addressed the speculation and clarified that no AI was used in the making of the teaser. He explained that every frame had been crafted through traditional filmmaking processes over several months. His clarification aimed to reassure audiences about the authenticity of the visuals.

The film is written by Pramod Tammineni, with music composed by Ajay-Atul. Cinematography is handled by Nirav Shah, while editing is by Karthika Srinivas R. Production design is by Shivam Rao Nagasani. The project is produced by Mythri Movie Makers, with T-Series presenting it.

Recently, the makers shared a special video featuring the song “O Mere Saajan” from the film. Alongside the clip, they wrote, “A special surprise from team Ranabaali, celebrating this beautiful moment in the lives of our Ranabaali and Jayamma O Mere Saajan (Hindi) Music Composers: Ajay – Atul Singers: Shweta Mohan, Javed Ali Lyricist: Kshitij Patwardhan." Another poster carried the lines, “Some bonds are eternal.
