Ramayana finally arrived in theatres today
The wait is over! Ranbir Kapoor's much-awaited film of the year, Ramayana, featuring Sai Pallavi and Yash, has finally arrived in theatres today (November 5) worldwide. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the epic features an ensemble cast, with several actors taking on important roles. The morning shows began at 6.30 am in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and other cities. Netizens turned up for the first-day, first-show screenings, and the first reactions have started pouring in on social media.

What netizens are saying about Ramayana?

Moviegoers who caught the early screenings have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions. Taking to X (formerly called Twitter), one of the users gave four stars and wrote, "An Epic Tale visual Extravaganza Eye Feat. The Lord Rama #RanbirKapoor and @Sai_Pallavi92 as Sitha Maata such a visual treat with completely lived in thier roles. #NiteshTiwari #Yash #SaiPallavi. Mainly @TheNameIsYash as Ravana is spellbound on screen Absolute banger one. Director @niteshtiwari22vision and taking next level with solid packed top notch visuals. From start to end VFX is insane which we had ever seen on Indian cinema. So excited for Part 2."

Several viewers were impressed by his screen presence, with one X user calling his performance spellbinding. Another viewer felt that the film's opening portions, which focus on Ravana, were among its strongest moments. The user also praised Yash's commanding presence and the film's 3D visuals.

Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi have also received positive reactions. One viewer described Ranbir's portrayal of Ram as charismatic and felt that the two actors brought the central characters to life. Another review praised both performances, while also appreciating Ravi Dubey's work as Lakshmana.

However, not everyone was equally impressed with the emotional depth of the Ram-Sita portions.

Praises Ramayana's VFX

The film's technical aspects have been a major talking point among early viewers. Several X users praised the visual effects, CGI, grand sets and 3D presentation. One viewer described the VFX as exceptional, while another felt that the film's forest portions and large-scale sequences made for an impressive big-screen experience.

Another wrote, "#Ramayana first 30min is all about Rava. pitch perfect execution be it visuals, grandeur and presentation. Yash as Ravan what a screen presence. surprised with 3D visuals"

The battle between Jatayu and Ravana, involving the Pushpak Vimana, has also stood out. One viewer talked about the sequence as a major achievement, praising the visuals and the way the makers brought the encounter to life. The opening portions featuring Ravana also received appreciation for their scale and presentation.

Another viewer, however, offered a more mixed response, describing the film as an average watch. They wrote, "Watched #Ramayana Part 1 (Telugu) RK & Yash are spot on. Rest of the cast does well. Telugu dub is good. Went in hoping for strong drama, but it only works in parts. Action feels dull, BGM disappoints. More practical sets would’ve helped. Overall, an okay watch."

Calling it an 'absolute must-watch', the user wrote, "This has to be the best #ramayana ever! first half is peak cinema; the second half slows down a bit, but that mind-blowing climax makes it all worth it. yash as ravana. ranbir as shri rama was surprisingly excellent visuals are out of this world."

The background score has not impressed everyone. Some viewers felt that the music did not add enough weight to important scenes, while others found certain action sequences less exciting than expected. One Telugu-speaking viewer praised the performances of Ranbir and Yash and said the Telugu dubbing worked well, but felt that the drama was effective only in parts. The user also wished the film had used more practical sets.

Produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is planned as a two-part cinematic saga. The first part arrived in theatres on November 5, 2026, while the second instalment is scheduled for Diwali 2028. The film is releasing in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with IMAX screenings also available.
