However, in a surprising turn of events, Varma clarified that his tweet about "contesting from Pithapuram" was actually in reference to a short film contest and not a political bid.

Despite doubts raised about his actual intentions, with Varma even addressing naysayers by stating, “To all those doubting, I am super serious,” he later made it clear that his post was made in jest. In a subsequent post, he emphasized, “For all those dumbos who misread this tweet, I meant that I was taking part in a short film CONTEST in which I am submitting my entry which I shot in Pithapuram.”

The filmmaker, known for his candid and outspoken nature, refused to apologize for any confusion caused, stating, “No, I am not sorry for this miscommunication because I didn't even mention the word election and the media jumped into a frenzy of speculation.”
