Vyooham, initially scheduled for release in February, encountered multiple controversies, delaying its premiere to March, just ahead of the 2024 elections. The social media posts under scrutiny were part of the movie’s promotional campaign.
The film is centered around the tragic death of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash in 2009 and the subsequent formation of the YSR Congress Party by his son, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who served as Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister from 2019 to 2024. Another film by Varma that stirred controversy was Lakshmi’s NTR, which focused on the marriage of TDP founder and former chief minister NT Rama Rao (NTR) with Lakshmi Parvathi.
During its release, the TDP cautioned Varma to avoid targeting Naidu’s family in his films. Varma has previously made controversial remarks about Lokesh and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan, who currently holds the position of deputy chief minister in the state.
