Actor Ram Charan is a proud father to three children, two daughters and a son. Alongside his personal life, he continues to remain a renowned name in the film industry and is currently gearing up for the release of his much-awaited film Peddi. Recently, the actor opened up about his parenting philosophy, describing himself as a “rough” dad and sharing how he aims to be a present and involved father to his children.

How Ram Charan wants to raise his three children?

In a recent conversation with Esquire India, Ram Charan was asked whether he sees himself as a fun or strict parent. Responding candidly, the actor explained that he falls somewhere in between, calling himself a “rough” dad. By this, he meant that he encourages his children to explore freely, take risks, and not be afraid of getting their hands dirty while growing up.

Ram Charan shared, "The one who lets them jump, play dirty, climb, take risks. Their mother is the nurturing pole; I’m the one they come to when they want courage.”

He added that while he takes on the role of pushing them to be brave, his wife, Upasana Kamineni, brings balance as the more nurturing and caring parent in their household. According to him, their children turn to her for comfort, while they look to him when they need encouragement to face challenges.

Ram Charan's parenting tips

The actor also talked about the larger idea of parenting and the influence parents have on their children. He emphasised that children often learn the most by observing their parents’ behaviour rather than just listening to advice. For this reason, Ram Charan said, "I want to be a very, very present person first. And I want to be a present father."

He further explained that being emotionally available is one of his biggest priorities. In his view, being a present father goes beyond simply spending time, it involves being actively involved, attentive, and supportive in everyday moments. This approach, he believes, helps build a stronger bond and shapes a child’s personality in meaningful ways.

Speaking about what he hopes his children will take forward in life, Ram Charan expressed a clear vision. He wants, "They should find a purpose and they should create an impactful life."
