This auspicious festival will be celebrated on August 30 and 31. Every year the festival falls on the Poornima Tithi or the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravan (monsoon).

This year Purnima Tithi will fall on 30 August at about 10:45 AM while Bhadra Tithi will commence at 11:00 AM. If Purnima Tithi ends on 31 August 2023, at 7:05 AM, the upcoming Surya Udaye Purnima will be the perfect time to tie the rakhi on your brother’s wrist as per Drik Panchang. It can be held either on August 30 after 9:00 PM or on August 31 before 7:05 AM.

Raksha Bandhan Has Its Roots In Mythology

According to Hindu mythology, Draupadi tended to a wounded Lord Krishna after her injured his finger on the Sudarshan Chakra by tying a piece of her saree to his finger. In return, he vowed to protect her dignity.
